Nursery Wallpaper With Brewster Home Fashions

Today, I’m bringing you a post from the nursery of a sweet little man who is due in May. My friend Erika and her family live in this beautiful 100 year old house near the center of town. It has amazing shiplap, beautiful hardwoods and lots of character.

Yall, I’m so happy that wallpaper is back in full force. Especially with all the amazing, modern patterns and less stressful ways of hanging it.

When I was contacted by Brewster Home Fashions about a wallpaper project I immediately thought of Erika’s nursery.  This room acted as servants quarters originally. Isn’t that fancy? I can’t imagine.. It’s an amazing space. You walk in through an arched door way and look down a striped wall to a bright room full of windows and light.

It’s a small space but I think that makes it all the more cozy and perfect for a little baby. Plus a small space with windows doesn’t seem like a small space at all. It’s science.

They had already painted all the trim and the walls when they first moved in. The room already looked great but an accent wall with a fun wallpaper was the perfect addition.

Brewster has paintable, textured wallpaperpeel and stick options and even where you paste the wall and not the paper. I chose peel and stick thinking that it would be the easiest to work with. We were both immediately drawn to this Metropolis wallpaper. The black and white is so fresh and clean looking and I think the modern print works so well in this eclectic, old house. LOVE!

We got the rolls and started hanging. The set came with a utility knife and a smoother spatula thing. I’m 100% sure that’s not what it’s called. Both came in very handy. Some other things we used were: a level, scissors, a metal ruler, a step stool and popcorn.

We began at the edge of the wall, made a horizontal line with the level so that the wallpaper would hang straight and hung our first strip.

This is where we ran into a little hiccup. When you’re working in a 100
year old house, guess what? NOTHING is level. So we had spot or two that
looked a little uneven but it was mostly the house being it’s charming
self.
You peel the backing off of the wallpaper only about 6-12″ at a time. Place the peeled part onto the wall and then continue to peel away the paper as you are smoothing the wallpaper onto the wall with the handy tool.

I loved that part. So satisfying to watch it stick. #weird.

Since the whole room is windows, we never got the chance to do an entire strip of paper without having some sort of cut in it. This wasn’t a big deal but definitely made the job a bit slower. Basically every 18 inches we were having to match up paper again and make more cuts. There were some words. Also, I was anxious the whole time with my sweet pregnant friend balancing on the window sill or bed ledge. *No pregnant ladies were injured in the making of this post.
When we got to the window sill or base board, that’s where I used the utility knife to cut the excess.

The paper was easy to work with though. We learned a few things in all the cuts and matching.
It’s way easier with an extra set of hands to hold the paper in place as you peel away the backing.

Also, since we were working with smaller pieces, we tried to peel the whole piece and stick it on the wall. That didn’t work as well as peeling a few inches at a time. Something about suction or friction or static….or dust? Moral of the story, follow the instructions. It’s amazing how that works.
We both love how it turned out!

It looks so fresh and bright. Perfect for a sweet little man. We moved their Eames chair in there for a little touch of vintage to go with the modern. Also look at those sweet letters. Those are baby’s initials and his big sisters made them all by themselves. They are perfect.

We brought the wallpaper around to the next wall over. One wall would have been great but since it’s mostly windows anyway, 2 walls makes a better statement.

The comforter didn’t look so good on the white side, next to the wallpaper so we flipped it over to the reverse.

Thank you Jeff and Erika, for letting me help myself to the walls in your house. I hope little H loves his cityscape walls. It’ll be interesting to see how long it takes before a building gets colored in…..

Thank you to Brewster Home Fashions for working with me on this fun update. We are so happy with the results!

  1. I LOVE that wallpaper – it's such a gorgeous contrast for the beautiful molding! I'm officially asking for a house tour of this place – 100 years old with servant's quarters?! DYING!

  2. I am in love with this wallpaper! It transformed the room and added so much character while still keeping the room neutral. Great job, great info!
