DIY Interchangeable Hoop Ornaments

Thank you so much to all who stopped by for my eclectic Christmas home tour last week! If you decided to come back, welcome and thanks! I pointed out our embroidery hoop ornaments on our tree and I wanted to show you how I made them.

The making them part is pretty straight forward but what I made them
from and how I plan to use them in the future, makes me really excited. I had the tree pretty much done but I had the idea the add one more thing to our tree. I didn’t want shiny or sparkly but something that brought a more vintage look to the tree. I got the idea to buy embroidery hoops and fill them with fabric. If I had thought ahead, I might have been able to thrift a few but I didn’t and so as a birthday present to myself, I bought 2 packs of these. *affiliate link*

Next, I could have headed to the fabric store but instead I went to goodwill and found the perfect blouse for the project. I paid $5 for it and I could have maybe purchased fabric for cheaper but this had the vintage feel and the red that I was looking for.

I didn’t even have to measure. I just slid the inner hoop under the fabric.

Put the outer hoop on top and tightened it up.

Once it was tight. I just used scissors to cut around the hoop as closely as possible.

I didn’t add a hanger to them but just propped them on branches in the tree. This is good for filling gaps that don’t necessarily have branches to hang from.

I didn’t plan this part but I love how the light shines through the fabric.

The best part of these? If I want to, I can change them out every year to give our tree a whole new look. They would be so cute with a big cable knit sweater in them. Or burlap or mudcloth or antique lace doilies or Christmas fabric or fabric to match your house’s color scheme. ANYTHING YOU WANT. The possibilities are endless. Every year something new.  Which is why I totally didn’t mind spending $16 on them. That’s right. I justify purchases that others wouldn’t even think twice about…. a blessing and a curse.

So that’s IT! Do you love them? I love them. I love their potential. They add just what I thought the tree needed.
