My Home Style: Christmas Tree Edition

O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree, you make me so dang hap-py! I’m pretty sure those are the lyrics. Yall! I’m so excited to be joining in with the My Home Style: Christmas Tree Edition blog hop hosted by Stephanie at Casa Watkins Living. This whole week awesome home styling bloggers have been sharing their trees and today is my day to show you ours! If you’re here from Taryn Whitaker Designs, Hello! I’m so happy to have you.

First of all, this is our tree from the hop last year.

I loved it so much with the giant spiral/ garland looking clumps of ornaments. I really had a hard time this year. So instead of trying to top it I decided to go back to basics.

We moved over the summer, (if you’re new to the blog you can see our house’s before pics here and our recent exterior makeover here) and I’m going a little more modern and traditional in our new house so I thought our tree should reflect that.

Our tree is from King of Christmas. It looks so beautiful and realistic. I’m so thankful to have it. It’s new for this year and you know what else is new? This is the first year I’ve ever used white lights in my whole life.

My family used multi colored lights growing up and even though my hubby’s family used white, he’s always given me creative control. This year, I branched out and tried them.

I’ve gotta say. It is pretty magical.

The plaid blanket was a 50% fall special at Hobby Lobby. I always like to find “tree skirts” outside of the tree skirt aisle. I love how well it all goes with our vintage rug (it was my great grandmothers).

Other than that I reused a lot of what we already had. I added new fabric to the embroidery hoop ornaments I love so much. (that tutorial is here)

I spray painted the succulents I used last year and the berry sprigs got a coat of turquoise blue.

Yall, the star made out of a hoop and ribbon was my 7 year old’s idea. I feel like I kind of hijacked the decorating process when the blog started so when she offered that idea, I ran with it. It’s cute and she was so proud when I took her up on her design suggestion.

That leads me to the ‘back to basics’ theme too. I included our families ornaments through out the tree. It was so important to the girls and there is nothing that says you can’t use hand-me-downs and homemade goods and still have a beautiful tree.

After a little bit of wavering and letting go of trying to make it something fresh or over the top, I’m so happy with how it turned out. Sometimes a classic, family oriented tree that makes you smile is exactly what your home needs. Pressure shmessure.

It’s also beautiful and glow-y at night.

I’m still decorating the rest of the house but it’s getting pretty Christmasy around here. I can’t wait to show you what else I’ve done. In the next few weeks I’ll be posting gift guides and a Christmas tour so make sure you come back!
