Main Bath DIY REVEAL

It’s time!!! I’m so excited to show you our main bathroom makeover for the ‘Choose Your Own Adventure Refresh’ hosted by Jewel at Jeweled Interiors and sponsored by Minted and Hudson Valley Lighting. This post contains affiliate links (all listed at the end). Now, let’s get to it!

I love how it all turned out! I told you last week that I had to change some things in my original design.

For a while this makeover had me doubting myself and my vision for the space. By the way, this is ok. It happens. Just be flexible and keep going!

Now I look at this before and after and I feel like it all came together to look pretty. dang. good.

Let me show you around.

I painted the vanity and the walls in the shower room with the left over paint from the color I used in our laundry room makeover (here) in January. Sherwin Williams ‘Ripe Olive’.

I kept the shower curtain we already had but dyed the ends of it to pull in the orangey leather color from my design board.

Updating the grout and covering the countertops in concrete made a huge impact for very little money.

I spray painted the existing hinges on the cabinet doors and new nickel hardware made them look so much better.

In the vanity part of the bathroom we added new lighting from Hudson Valley Lighting. It’s the Ashleigh 2 light wall sconce by Mitzi in the polished nickel finish.

It’s meant to be hung upright but I hung it sideways so that it would be more centered over the mirror. It also comes in an aged brass finish which I loved but I wanted to try something different.

I love the asymmetry of it. It lights the room so well without being too much. It really gave the space an updated look. This is now the second light we’ve gotten from Mitzi and Hudson Valley Lighting and I can truly share that these lights are great quality. They are sturdy and well made and there are tons of different designs to pick from.

Remember how I wanted to use the antique mirror? That’s what I was talking about when I said I started questioning everything. The room just wasn’t looking how I wanted it to. Enter the faux bamboo mirror. It was a Facebook Marketplace find. The listing was 2 identical mirrors for $12. Crazy right?! I was able to sell the second one for $12 and come out even.

You might notice I have a lot of metals going on in here. You can mix metals. Just make sure you have a couple of each one. The door hardware, the towel hook and the faucet are matte black like the hardware in the rest of the house. The gold of the mirror frame is repeated in the art work next to it and the silver is in the lighting, the pulls and a frame on the opposite wall.

Speaking of frames. I love the eclectic mix of art in the room.

The News Flash print is from Hi-Lighter Inc. and I found it on Minted. I just loved it because it was simple but also it sounds like something I would say to my mister. This is his bathroom so why not stick it front and center?

I loved that Minted has the option of ‘float mount’ instead of just framing it as is or having a traditional mat around it. It kind of makes the print like a post card which is a cute detail.

I’ve been really into stacks of art lately so I pulled some prints from around the house to surround the new one.  On the other side of the wall there is a grouping of art that reflects in the mirror.

The bigger, abstract print is called Balance No. 3 by Lindsay Stetson Thompson on Minted. It’s meant to be kids art I think but I loved it and thought the colors were great. I chose a matte black modern metal frame for this one.

The only other thing I haven’t mentioned yet is the paint. I used two colors in here. The ceiling and top part of the wall is Sherwin Williams “Greek Villa” (which is also the color we used on the exterior of our house.)

I picked a height almost 3/4 of the way up, taped it off and painted everything, door, trim and all, sw “filmy green”.

I love the detail it adds to a simple space.

  1. OMG, what a HUGE difference, Jessica! I absolutely love what you did. You would never know it started as an outdated bathroom. And I can't believe you did so much in such a short time period. Amazing!

  3. I LOVE it! The concrete skim coat makes all the difference and your choice of light was GENIUS given the placement of the fixture! Such a transformation!
